10 Nov 2024

The Indian Institute of Information Technology Raichur (IIITR) participated in the inaugural National Well-Being Conclave (NWC) on 9-10 November 2024 hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The event brought together over 500 participants from 100 higher education institutions across the nation to discuss and share strategies focused on mental health, resilience, and well-being.

The first-of-its-kind conclave was inaugurated by Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India, and featured keynote speeches and interactive sessions with key figures, including Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor, and Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Senior Psychiatrist & Program Director at Expressions India.

The conclave aimed to foster a healthy and supportive academic environment by addressing challenges related to mental health among students and faculty members. Through symposiums, workshops, and panel discussions, participants shared insights on mental health strategies, resilience-building, and innovative solutions for well-being in educational institutions.

In addition to interactive sessions, various institutions set up stalls showcasing their emerging mental health initiatives and success stories. This exchange of best practices was a key highlight of the event, emphasizing collaboration and innovation in creating a well-being ecosystem within higher education institutions.

The objectives of the conclave included:

  1. Promoting mental health through peer support programs.
  2. Encouraging resilience-building strategies.
  3. Sharing successful mental health programs and interventions.

The event’s discussions also aligned with the findings from the Economic Survey 2023-24, which highlighted the role of peer networks and community-based mental health strategies in reducing stigma and fostering a sense of belonging among students.

Through shared initiatives and collective action, the NWC aims to set a foundation for sustainable mental health programs across institutions in the country. The goal is to create environments that prioritize mental health, resilience, and holistic well-being for students and faculty members alike.

IIITR’s participation underscored its commitment to contributing toward these national efforts by fostering a balanced approach to mental health and well-being within its own community and beyond.
