Institute of National Importance
Wadavatti, Gadwal Road, Raichur, Karnataka
Our Story
IIIT Raichur is one of the youngest and budding IIITs proposed by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. In under five years it has grown from its first batch of B.Tech Computer Science students into a fully independent, self-governed institute with three undergraduate programs — Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, and Mathematics and Computing (since 2024) — and a growing research footprint.
The institute's first batch was admitted to B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, with classes run from the temporary campus of IIT Hyderabad, Telangana.
IIIT Raichur shifted to a transit campus in Raichur, Karnataka — equipped with academic and administrative buildings and separate hostels for boys and girls.
IIT Hyderabad mentored IIIT Raichur from August 2019, overseeing administration, teaching, and campus planning. Prof. B. S. Murty, Director IITH & Mentor Director IIITR, and Prof. Harish Kumar Sardana, Director IIITR, exchanged the official handover document on this date.
The institute began offering a second B.Tech program, in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, alongside its founding Computer Science and Engineering program.
The Mathematics and Computing branch was inaugurated for the 2024 batch, rounding out the institute's three undergraduate programs.
IIIT Raichur now runs from its permanent campus at Wadavatti, Raichur, Karnataka — with the campus continuing to expand as new academic and residential blocks come online.
Mentorship
IIT Hyderabad mentored IIIT Raichur from August 2019 to November 2022, overseeing its complete functioning — administration, teaching, and new campus planning — while the institute found its footing.
